My Story

Switching Gears

January 2022, I woke up with a pink lightning bolt streak across my forehead, Harry Potter-style. 


My right eye felt weird and was light-sensitive, so I had to sit in dim lighting. This went on for a few weeks, so I had plenty of time to think about my future. 


2019, Curt and I were traveling.     

I was writing Hippie Day Tripper, my free online travel magazine; 

I had finished seven issues when COVID hit. We were packing the car and heading to the coast to sell ads.


For the next two years, wildfires kept us close to home. Shingles was the final catalyst.

I had been living off my art and travel writing, but the lack of tourism and smoke ruined that.


What would I write about?

 I was going to write a fused glass book until I realized, I would sell 35 books a year. 


I am Italian. Food is Life.

I would write about food and share recipes.


For months, I sat in the dark and researched every cooking style, from BBQ to Italian to burgers, soups, and even vegetarian meals.

I wrote a spice book while I was planning a bigger idea.

I merged my passion for travel research and writing with my love of eating, created my genre -


'Food Adventures with Recipes' 


My first book while I was stuck in bed with shingles. It is the 

'Spice and Herb Explorer'


I paid a company to help format it. They did such a horrible job that I put it into a drawer and cried. 


I ran across it in February 2024 and challenged myself to finish it before April 1, 2024


I made my goal and am proud of my work. I include a great story, fun graphics, and yummy recipes.
